The BioAgenda 2007 Summits East and West are gatherings of luminaries and leading thinkers to discuss and debate the state of science and politics as a watershed presidential election approaches in 2008. With controversies simmering about federal support of embryonic stem cell research, decreases in federal funding for basic research, delays in drug approvals at the FDA, continuing increases in US and global health care costs, what will be the legacy of the Bush years - and what is the next administration likely to be faced with in the realm of life sciences? We will amaze you, make you think, and provide you with valuable insights and roll-up-your sleeves participation in developing ideas and innovations. Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS 3)

Queens College
Cambridge, United Kingdom
On September 9, Bernard Siegel will provide a presentation entitled "The Inevitable Legal Battle Over Engineered Negligible Senescence." The New York Times greeted the announcement of Dolly with the banner headline, "Researchers Astounded - Fiction Becomes True and Dreaded Possibilities Are Raised."
In reaction to the fear of human cloning, laws were introduced criminalizing both reproductive cloning and somatic cell nuclear transfer, thus raising the specter of scientists and patients going to prison. The battle over cloning, stem cells and embryo research has been a global conflict and serves as a model for understanding the looming legal wars over engineered negligible senescence.
Who will be the stakeholders in this battle? On what side are the advocates of human rights? As policymakers and pundits debate, how will the legal system practically address the issues raised in a world where aging may be cured?

The conference is organized by Dr. Aubrey D.N.J. de Grey,Editor-in-Chief, Rejuvenation Research and Chair and Chief Science Officer, Methuselah Foundation. For more information please see www.sens.org/sens3/.
